3D Modeled Food (Virtual)

3D Modeled Food

Saba Ghole

Session 3: August 9-20, 2021

Food has always been on your plate, but has it ever told you a story or made a point? Feeding off the enormous growth of the worldwide tech revolution, a new breed of innovative restaurants and chefs are integrating design and technology into the production and presentation of their food, creating desserts and dishes that wow the taste buds and dazzle the imagination. Cutting edge restaurants like ArtScience Culture Lab & Cafe in Boston dive into molecular gastronomy using a device originally meant for inhaled drugs and vaccines. Ukranian pastry Chef Dinara Kasko uses 3D printing to create molds for sculptural desserts that are both perfect for Instagram and delicious. In this studio, students will explore the narrative potential of food through the use of advanced technologies and techniques.

Using the combined power of digital design (computer-aided drafting, 3D modeling) and rapid prototyping tools (laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC milling), students will learn advanced mold making and casting techniques, parameterization, and also food preparation techniques to produce a dish for the future. Bring your appetite, and get ready to enter the high-tech culinary world!
